By the 10's: Battle!

Here's a one-off "By the 10's" featuring an Atlas title I'd imagine most of us aren't familiar with... Battle!

Monster Mondays - Special Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed Edition!

With one exception, this entire Monster Monday post is all "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed"... you are checking out The Blog of Frankenstein each day, aren't you?

frankensteinmeetsspace_lc.jpg

This lobby card was to promote the double feature of Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster and Voodoo Island -- although the frame focuses mostly on the Frankenstein one, the still is all Voodoo Island, isn't it?

Now, on to a LOT of Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed stuff -- you'd think this was a Movie of the Week post with all this stuff!

Here's a vivid poster for Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed used in the Belgium theatres!

Here's a very different French poster for the same movie!

Kind of hard to see it, but this is a German presskit for Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed!

Here's the Spanish poster -- note that there's little resemblance between each country's poster -- heck, even the title's translated differently!

Here's some Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed stills!

Cool Stuff: Bat-Stuff!

Consider this post a preview of the Batcave Trophy Room that'll be debuting on July 7th!

batman_66boardgame.JPG

Classic 1966 Batman board game!

batman_66frametray.jpg

This 1966 frame-tray puzzle either has a giant eagle, a shrunken Batman and Robin, or both!

batman_66idealplayset.jpg

Here's another 1966 classic toy, Ideal's Batman Playset! Some of these pieces would also be part of the JLA set!

batman_66rolykin

This thing is called a Rolykin, I believe that Marx made them... if I'm not mistaken, this sits on top of a ball bearing, so you can roll it along the floor.

batman_66swoopsdownfig

All I have for notes on this is that it's a 1966 "Swoops Down" figure!

batman_70bopbag

Here's a 1970 Bop Bag... you know, the thing about bop bags that's always bugged me is that they always put the good guys on the bop bags! Why not produce bop bags with the Joker, Pengiun or Riddler on 'em, so you can beat them up, and not Batman?

batman_71ahibumpngo1
batman_71ahibumpngo2

Here's another classic toy! From 1971, it's AHI's "Bump-N-Go" Batmobile!

batman_73hasbrogame

Here's Hasbro's Batman game, 1973 version!

batman_74inflatablekite

This 1974 inflatable kite looks a bit odd to me...

batman_78radio

This figural radio hails from 1978!

batman_89lunchbox

This lunchbox was made in 1989, but it was too cool not to save!

More Bat-stuff next time around!

So, While Other Geeks in the Area Were at Emerald City Comic Con...

...I've been doing the following:

1. Going to the Economic Survival Fair

2. Collecting all the fallen branches from the way-too-many-freaking-trees-on-our-property together, and using the chainsaw to cut up the larger branches into smaller pieces (all of these will eventually be burned when I make our firepit)

3. Fixing the downstairs toilet, which started leaking Friday afternoon, but it wasn't until Saturday early evening before we could get a new set of tank bolts to replace the ones that were put on incorrectly by the original owners of this house

4. Waking up at 4:30 this morning because my darling foster daughter, Desi, decided to wake up and refuse to go back to sleep.

Well, I also have been finishing up advance posts for the Random Acts of Geekery through to the end of September, as well as working on advance posts for some of my other blogs, so it hasn't been an entirely geek-free weekend.

I also finally watched The Dark Knight on Friday afternoon. It was good, but I wouldn't give it all the praises I've seen elsewhere. Heath Ledger's Joker was... well... different, that's for sure. It appears that his Joker's origin is very, very different from the comics' Joker, given that part of the smile is apparently scars caused by a knife, wielder unknown. I can't really buy that Batman would've been just ignoring the Joker's criminal activities for so long, just because they were during the daytime hours -- my Batman wouldn't let the fact that all those crimes were going on in the daytime stop him, even if he didn't go out in the daylight as Batman... he might initially disguise himself as "Matches" Malone to infiltrate the gang, and then change into his Batman costume to wrap things up...

...but then, movie Batmen never really seem to be much in the way of detectives... they're just gadgeteers in armored suits with vehicles that couldn't possibly work the way they're shown to work on the screen.

They did finally do Two-Face on screen visually "correct" to my eye... even if the only characteristic of his that was brought to the screen was the flipping of the coin. I didn't see much in the way of a duality theme to his activities, but then, when they insist on cramming in two villains (with one villain's origin) in these movies, no matter what the length, things will be cut short or left out, won't they?
