...I've been doing the following:
1. Going to the Economic Survival Fair
2. Collecting all the fallen branches from the way-too-many-freaking-trees-on-our-property together, and using the chainsaw to cut up the larger branches into smaller pieces (all of these will eventually be burned when I make our firepit)
3. Fixing the downstairs toilet, which started leaking Friday afternoon, but it wasn't until Saturday early evening before we could get a new set of tank bolts to replace the ones that were put on incorrectly by the original owners of this house
4. Waking up at 4:30 this morning because my darling foster daughter, Desi, decided to wake up and refuse to go back to sleep.
Well, I also have been finishing up advance posts for the Random Acts of Geekery through to the end of September, as well as working on advance posts for some of my other blogs, so it hasn't been an entirely geek-free weekend.
I also finally watched The Dark Knight on Friday afternoon. It was good, but I wouldn't give it all the praises I've seen elsewhere. Heath Ledger's Joker was... well... different, that's for sure. It appears that his Joker's origin is very, very different from the comics' Joker, given that part of the smile is apparently scars caused by a knife, wielder unknown. I can't really buy that Batman would've been just ignoring the Joker's criminal activities for so long, just because they were during the daytime hours --
my Batman wouldn't let the fact that all those crimes were going on in the daytime stop him, even if he didn't go out in the daylight
as Batman... he might initially disguise himself as "Matches" Malone to infiltrate the gang, and then change into his Batman costume to wrap things up...
...but then, movie Batmen never really seem to be much in the way of detectives... they're just gadgeteers in armored suits with vehicles that couldn't possibly work the way they're shown to work on the screen.
They did finally do Two-Face on screen visually "correct" to my eye... even if the only characteristic of his that was brought to the screen was the flipping of the coin. I didn't see much in the way of a duality theme to his activities, but then, when they insist on cramming in two villains (with one villain's origin) in these movies, no matter what the length, things will be cut short or left out, won't they?
